I'm pretty sure Leah is the ringleader of the candy thieves. Ryan got some kind of smoking deal on Toblerone chocolate bars and huge hershey's kisses and they've been sitting in a box in our closet for about a year now. So I guess the kids have exhibited some self control. . . but this past week they just went wild with the candy sneaking! I went in their room and was immediately struck with the aroma of chocolate. I'm pretty sure they think I am omniscient because when I asked for the chocolate bar wrappers they fell into a stunned silence and dove under the bed to retrieve the evidence. They didn't ask how I knew, they just handed them over. I told them they couldn't have dessert for a month and their Halloween candy was in grave danger of being taken by Ryan and I (not that we don't already pick thru and take what we want). Jeff is furious! "I didn't take it!" says he. "Did you eat any?" says I. "Yes" says he. "Well, there you go." says I. Poor little dude. It is true though, Leah is the main thief, so it gives me a chance to talk to him a bit about peer pressure, If Leah jumped off a cliff. . . I'm pretty sure he would jump too at this point. He is a go-er along-er.
Leah accepted her punishment with grace and didn't fight a bit, though she is so very saturated with chocolate I don't think she'll miss it for a while. Besides, I think she figures she can just take more if she feels like it! She doesn't suffer pangs of guilt. I think she thinks it's a fun game, what can she get away with? It doesn't bode well for her teenage years.

I remember a similar event when Katie was the culprit. She was about 6 years old and found out where her brothers' fund raising candy was kept. She was very sad (at being caught) and cried mightily. Big brother David was so sad that she was sad that he wanted to pay for the pilfered goods. However, his sweet offer could not be accepted and Katie had to endure her punishment.
I remember this event mom wrote about. Although I can not remember ever being punished! hmmmmmmm All I can remember is taking the chocolate, the chocolate being very yummy, hiding it under my dresser, getting in trouble and my big brother David fixing everything for me. I never stole chocolate again!!!
I wouldn't be able to handle the Toblerone in my house either. What a temptation!
